The development of the Port of Berbera in Somaliland has brought hope to a young nation and created jobs for 1,200 people. Located along one of the world’s busiest sea routes with access to a vast hinterland via the Berbera Corridor, the port is becoming a trade hub for the Horn of Africa, serving a region of 140 million people.

In October, a team of filmmakers from the Wall Street Journal travelled along the Berbera Corridor to see how DP World is working with government and local businesses to help communities flourish.

The Dubai Free Zones Council (DFZC) Demand Side Management Strategy (DSM) project was undertaken with the goal of developing a DSM Strategy tailored to the DFZC and aligning with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy overarching strategy and targets. The DSM strategy is a key initiative in aligning Dubai and the UAE with the 2050 net zero goals. In addition to environmental benefits, DSM results in significant cost benefit, providing a strong business case for implementing DSM programs.

During this event, the DFZC DSM Strategy and implementation plans will be announced. Free Zones will also showcase their successes in implementing DSM projects to date.

The ocean is the largest long-term carbon sink on the planet. It stores and recycles 93% of the earth’s CO2, but the rate of loss of these blue carbon ecosystems is the highest among all ecosystems. Touching on the variety of ways in which climate-ocean investment can be scaled up to meet local and global commitments, this event will highlight existing and emerging mechanisms and guidelines on investment protocols. The event will also address the importance of nature-based solutions and blue carbon ecosystems, such as mangroves, seagrasses, kelp and salt marshes.
