DP World Limassol welcomes Wonder of the Seas

This is Royal Caribbean’s largest cruise ship as well as the largest in the world

Limassol, Cyprus, 1 February 2022: DP World Limassol officially welcomed yesterday the world’s biggest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean International’s Wonder of the Seas. The cruise ship will remain at DP World’s Limassol Cruise Terminal until Thursday, for layover and crew change services.

The 6,988-passenger ship is Royal Caribbean’s fifth Oasis Class vessel, measuring 362 metres long and weighing 236,857 gross tons across 18 decks. The Wonder was only recently delivered to the company, and it will make its official debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 4, to begin sailing 7-night cruises to the Caribbean before heading to Barcelona, Spain and Rome to offer summer cruises in Europe.

Royal Caribbean has recently revealed that after a successful summer sailing from Cyprus, Rhapsody of the Seas will offer a lineup of seven-night cruises to the Greek Isles from Limassol in August and September 2022. It should be noted that last year, Royal Caribbean’s “Jewel of the Seas” completed a total of 17 seven-night cruises from Limassol, and managed to carry about 23,000 passengers, whose spending generated significant economic activity and created various job opportunities for the country.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome the world’s biggest cruise ship to Cyprus and to the port of Limassol,” DP World Limassol CEO, Mr Nawaf Abdulla said. “DP World Limassol strives to provide passengers and cruise ships with first-class service and has invested heavily in attracting business to Cyprus, recognizing the importance of tourism to the economy. We are pleased that Royal Caribbean has trusted us with servicing their largest cruise ship and we are looking forward to welcoming them back in August.”

The fact that leading cruise operators like Royal Caribbean are increasingly choosing Limassol as a layover, homeport or port of call, is a testament to the efforts that DP World Limassol and the Authorities have been making to improve the port’s competitiveness and transform it into a major homeport in the Eastern Mediterranean”, he added.
