DP World Callao is the first port in Peru to obtain the third star for its carbon footprint.

From 2019 to 2020, the company has achieved a reduction in its emissions of 964 metric tons of CO2eq. This is equivalent to what 5,784 adult trees could absorb in one year.  

06/junio/2022 DP World Callao, concessionaire of the South Dock of the Port of Callao, has obtained the third star of Peru's Carbon Footprint awarded by the Ministry of the Environment. This recognition certifies that the company is committed to measuring, verifying and reducing its emissions from its port operations and contributing to national climate change objectives, as part of its "Our World Our Future" sustainability strategy.  

The port company measures the consumption of resources from the beginning of its operations and is the first port that has voluntarily decided to report its emissions to the Peru Carbon Footprint program. In this sense, from 2019 to 2020, a reduction of 964 metric tons of CO2eq has been achieved. This is equivalent to what 5,784 adult trees could absorb in one year. Currently, DP World Callao is preparing the 2021 report to demonstrate that it continues to reduce its emissions to achieve carbon neutrality in 2030. 

“At DP World we believe in protecting our planet through world-class environmental standards. We are proud to have obtained this recognition. We will continue our efforts to reduce our footprint and follow our plan to become a carbon neutral company”, said Nicolas Gauthier, CEO of DP World in Peru. 

Within the plan to reach carbon neutrality, DP World has been working on different initiatives in order to achieve this objective. For example, the company has recently purchased 100% electric equipment, such as 20 internal transfer vehicles (ITVs) and 12 electric RTG yard cranes. This equipment, which is part of the investment for the Bicentennial Pier expansion megaproject, saves 1.5 million liters of fossil fuels, which means stopping the emission of more than 4,000 tons of CO2eq each year.
