DP WORLD BERBERA REACHES PORT EXPANSION MILESTONE

Date: 13/01/2021

13 January 2021: DP World Berbera has welcomed the arrival of eight new rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes as part of its current project to expand and further develop the Port of Berbera.

The arrival of the RTG’s is an important milestone in the development of the port by DP World, following the completion of a 400-meter quay and a 25-hectare yard extension of the new container terminal in August last year.

The next milestone in the port’s expansion will be the installation of three Super Post Panamax Ship to Shore gantry cranes, which are scheduled to be delivered in March. Combined with the expanded yard and quay capacity, as well as a full complement of modern and efficient container handling equipment, the Port of Berbera will be able to serve the biggest vessels in the region.

DP World has committed to investing up to US$442 million to expand the port, and once completed it will increase capacity by 500,000 TEUs per year. The terminal is on schedule for commissioning by the end of March and will further strengthen Berbera Port as a major regional trade port servicing the Horn of Africa.

DP World Berbera is a true multi-use port whose customers handle a wide variety of cargo ranging from General Cargo, Bulk Cargo, RORO, Livestock and Containerized Cargo.
